The Pulse of Love: A Heartwarming Glimpse into Transgenerational Communication
A Song to the Heart, A Key to the Past
And now, my dear animated aficionados, gather around for a “hot take.” Pacemaker, a truly intimate, charming and powerful story, brings an emotional depth that resonates with every single heart beat. The creators wonderfully blend grand themes of love, acceptance, and finding oneself all while waiting for a pacemaker operation. It’s like a Disney movie had a baby with a Hallmark moment and invited a hospital drama over for a tea party.
From the bond between a grandchild and a grandfather to the exploration of love and identity, this piece of animation will have you reaching for the tissues one moment, and laughing through your sniffles the next. This, my friends, is not just a heartbeat, it’s the rhythm of life. Two words folks – Teary. Eyed. Get your pacemakers ready, cause this animation is sure to set hearts racing!
Talk about wearing your heart on your sleeve, or in this case, on your animation cell!
SNAPPY OVERVIEW A spellbinding musical unfolds as Grandad and Cody sing “The Rhythm of The Heart”, transporting viewers through a romance tale that evolves into a vibrant marriage. Granddad communicates the essence of love to Cody: “when it lands, don’t let it slip away.” Awakening from his reminiscence, Grandad sympathizes with Cody’s feeling of being an outsider, drawing parallels to his own history with love. As the soccer championship prize looms, it only takes one more goal from Cody’s team. Glancing towards the stands, Cody finds the strength to bring home the win from his encouraging grandfather. The plot is grounded in real-life experiences of Christopher Lennertz and his family. In addition, the art direction was shaped by multiple influences like Entergalactic. Christopher Lennertz, the mind behind the script, direction, and music reveals, “The spark for this idea ignited from my father-in-law’s transformation post-Pacemaker surgery. His health-triggered behavioral shift, my eldest coming out as gay, the second pacemaker installation, and the fluctuating mindset changes all led to this thought – each person’s soul identity could be symbolized in the rhythm of their heart. It also seemed like an apt lyric for a musical. So my son, Tobi, and I decided to create an animated musical to normalize transgender acceptance which the major studios were apprehensive about.” The movie brought together a gifted international crew who worked tirelessly on a film they believed deserved global attention.
