Meat-less and More Fun: Vegesaurs on the Roar…Again!

‘Vegesaurs’ set to roam on CBeebies again

On the face of it, Vegesaurs pack a triple treat: entertainment, gentle initiation to environmentalism, and a subliminal nod toward a plant-based lifestyle. By cleverly combining the exciting worlds of dinosaurs and vegetables (never thought I would say that in a sentence), these series prove once again that kids’ TV isn’t just tales of princesses and dragons. The news of extra seasons signifies this experiment is a roaring success!

For my hot take, it might just be the perfect way to convince your little one to eat their veggies. After all, who can resist the vibrant, rolly-polly, dinosaur hybrids chomping on fresh produce with much glee? It’s an ingenious method to flag off early nutrition education. Moreover, there’s enough room for parents to enjoy the nuances of the series. So, as we anticipate the return of our beloved Vegesaurs, let’s brace ourselves for more wholesome, green fun, shall we?

Studio 100 Media has announced that the hit preschool series Vegesaurs, produced by Cheeky Little Media, has been picked up for seasons two and three by the BBC. With an additional 40 action-packed new episodes and even more delightful characters, the famed Vegesaurs will return to the small screen on CBeebies. Season two is set to air next year, while the third season is being made for release in Q3 2024.

The pilot season of Vegesaurs made its debut in the UK in February 2023 on CBeebies with commendable ratings and has maintained its prominence in the weekday morning slot on the channel’s Discover & Do zone. The Vegesaurs can also be found on the streaming platform BBC iPlayer, where it has garnered over 20 million views so far.

We are thrilled to have the BBC onboard. The pick-up of seasons two and three symbolizes a steadfast and long-lasting commitment to the Vegesaurs franchise. The noteworthy performance of the series in the UK has played a huge part in the international success of the brand—not just in broadcasting, but also in the realms of licensing & merchandising.

May 2022 saw the successful premiere of Vegesaurs on ABC Australia, and it quickly became a favorite, making its mark in the world of television. Listed among the top three shows commissioned by ABC and as one of the five most popular children’s programs in Australia, Vegesaurs has quickly gained international broadcasters including France TV (France), SVT (Sweden), MiniMini+ (Poland), NPO Zappelin (The Netherlands), MTVA (Hungary), TVO Kids, Knowledge Network and Radio Canada (Canada). This engaging and fun series has cultivated a strong presence and a devoted fanbase on every channel it has been featured on. Macmillan Children’s Books, who holds worldwide publishing rights, has already issued first story books in the UK and Australia.

The children are enamored with this CGI action-comedy series, brought to them by independent Australian producer Cheeky Little Media in collaboration with ABC Australia, France TV, and Studio 100, and which is based on a concept created by Gary Eck and Nick O’Sullivan.

Vegesaurs presents a refreshing twist on the dinosaur genre with distinct fruit and vegetable-shaped characters. Targeted at older preschoolers, the series places Ginger—a young Tricarrotops and her three baby Pea-Rex friends— at the center of mini adventures that are designed to engage children’s imaginations while also introducing them to topics such as healthy eating, sharing, and diversity.
