– Of these selected masterpieces, 25 films will partake in the INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION OF STOP-MOTION & TRADITIONAL TECHNIQUES IN ANIMATION (NO DIGITAL 3D/2D). After all, who needs technology when you’ve got clay and patience?
– Another category is titled NO DIALOGUES SHORTS. Despite along the lines of silent films, it has enrolled 7 entries. Seems like action indeed speaks louder than words.

Alright folks, let’s spill the tea! The 5th CRAFT International Animation Festival in Indonesia had artists from 65 different countries braving to drop their best animation shorts amidst a sea of talent. Talk about bravery! Just goes to show how much the world loves to tell stories, and who needs words when you’ve got incredible visual skills, right?

The high number of entries proves one thing – Animation just ain’t some kids stuff anymore. It’s a truly global platform where artists can show off their storytelling prowess, sans dialogues. “No Dialogue Shorts” saw 7 heroic entries, ready to make you laugh, cry, and gasp with zero wordplay. Makes sense since words tend to get lost in translation, but a perfectly animated raised eyebrow? Takes no Google Translation to get that!

But hey, it wasn’t all digital and hi-tech. A good chunk of the festival took us back to the old school done-right days of clay and patience, shouting out loud – Just because it’s old-fashioned, doesn’t mean it’s out of fashion. All in all, it’s quite a roller-coaster ride, one that we’re more than game to join. Because who needs reality-TV drama when you’ve got high stakes animation battles, right?

386 submissions from 65 nations make up the 5th CRAFT International Animation Festival.

From these, 41 stellar films were chosen to compete in the festival’s three main events:

25 in the GLOBAL CONTEST OF NON-DIGITAL 3D/2D STOP-MOTION & CLASSICAL ANIMATION,
7 in the NO-SPEECH SHORT ANIMATED FILMS FOR CHILDREN – STOP-MOTION & CLASSICAL ANIMATION, and
9 for the ALL ANIMATION TECHNIQUES COMPETITION, exclusively for animations from South-East Asian countries. Meanwhile, DIGITAL PANORAMA – A non-competitive display open to the world – only 2D/3D digital films will have 9 slots this time.
An added attraction this year is the expanded PANORAMA ANIMASI INDONESIA, providing a platform for showcasing the current Indonesian animation trends among indie artists and students.
