New Book Release: “Intimate Animation” Celebrated with A Film Collection

Anything But Child’s Play: Animation with a Sensual Spin

Listen up animation aficionados! If you thought animated films were just cute bunnies and wisecracking donkeys, think again. Looks like Skwigly’s editor, Ben Mitchell, and his partner in animation, Laura-Beth Cowley are here to tweak our perspectives. To celebrate the launch of their spicy new book, these two animation gurus sat in a very grown-up room, probably nibbling on 3D-carrot shaped cookies, and curated a collection of animations that’s more Fifty Shades of Sketch than Disney. With the suggestive title, “Intimate Animation”, this collection is set to remind us that animation, just like love, has no boundaries and can sometimes be a tad saucy. It’s a bold move that proves animation is not just about sugar, spice, and everything nice. Can’t wait to see what these visionaries will sketch next!

Presented in collaboration with Bar Shorts
A Showcase from Around the Globe, Various Years, 120m.

In honor of their new book release, Intimate Animation, Skwigly’s Chief Editor Ben Mitchell, along with Dr. Laura-Beth Cowley, have hand-picked an exceptional lineup of animated films that delve into the emotional and passionate side of animation. Drawing inspiration from Skwigly’s popular podcast, Intimate Animation, this showcase spotlights contemporary animations addressing love, intimacy, relationships, anatomy, and sexuality and the talented artists behind these masterpieces. An interactive panel discussion with the authors and filmmakers, moderated by Chris Shepherd, will follow the screening. The book will be sold at a special Bar Shorts discount.
