Animation Through a Queer Lens: Luzie Ilgner Amplifies LGBTQIA+ Voices and Stories
Who said animation was just for bugs, bunnies, and oversized-eyed Pixar characters? Get ready to ignite that rainbow-colored popcorn, because Bristol Animation Meetup, Encounters Film Festival, and The Cube are partnering up for an explosion of animation brilliance. And this isn’t any old animation night, folks! This is Inbetweens, a soiree dedicated to celebrating animation by and for the LGBTQIA+ community.
Constructed by the versatile virtuoso of the animator and illustrator world, Luzie Ilgner, this evening promises to whisk you away on a journey through truly queer storytelling. Who needs Superman when you’ve got super-queer animators breaking boundaries, busting stereotypes, and sprinkling a good dollop of fabulousness over the world of animation?
Keep your caped-crusaders, your Cinderellas, and your emotional clampets – there’s nothing quite like seeing the world bounce, shape-shift and shimmer through the technicolor lens of queer animation. So buckle up for an evening where the animation gets real, the perspectives iridescent, and the stories as diverse as the spectrum they proudly represent.
Now, how’s that for a new dimension in animation?
Local animator and illustrator, Luzie Ilgner, will curate the evening to shine a spotlight on queer filmmakers and their storytelling through the art of animation via a screening of contemporary short films (full programme to be announced). If you’re a queer animator or have crafted a film centered on queer stories and want your work to be taken into consideration for the night’s screening, do not hesitate to submit your piece via this submission form. Note: The last date for submission acceptance is 10th June.
