Introducing Quirino Lab: A pioneering training programme for animation executive producers presented by the Ibero-American Animation Quirino Awards. Set to take place from November 19 to 22 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain, this advanced seminar aims to guide professionals to success while championing progressive change in the animation sector. This initiative is a combined effort of Quirino Awards and the Tenerife Council, aligned with Tenerife Tourism and the Tenerife Film Commission.

Silvina Cornillón, Quirino Awards Director, shed light on the significance of executive producers in the animation industry during the unveiling of Quirino Lab at the recent Annecy Animation Festival. She affirmed the influential role of executive producers as the driving force of creativity and project actualization, underscoring the necessity for ongoing professional development, especially in an industry that is continuously evolving technologically and commercially.

The Quirino Lab programme is innovatively structured into distinct modules, conducted over the first three days under the guidance of eminent international animation industry experts. Emerging technologies, market trends, AI utilization in production, team management, IP development, and various other pivotal themes will be addressed. The workshops will be followed by networking with Tenerife’s businesses and an assortment of social soirées.

The design, structure, and dynamics of Quirino Lab were shaped, taking into account the insights and feedback accumulated at the Futures Lab, an event organized by Quirino Awards in association with Ortega-Marañón Foundation. The Lab also took into consideration the views of industry professionals gathered through a survey.

A special Futures Lab session, focused on executive production in animation, will be a highlight of the programme. The proposals, conclusions, and visions formed during the event will act as a road map to bolstering a key pillar of the industry.

Quirino Lab will be open for registration from July 8 to August 5 until 11:59 p.m. (Mexico Time) for active animation executive producers. Eligible candidates must be nationals or residents of one among 23 countries in the Ibero-American region with substantial experience in animation production. Entry to the Lab is capped at 20 deserving candidates with successful applications that meet confirmation requirements in a timely manner.

Registration cost for the Lab is 1,200 euros, excluding transportation and accommodation expenses. It covers seminar activities and meals. For rules and additional information, clickhere.

With the inception of Quirino Lab, Tenerife reaffirms its dedication to nourish and advance the local animation industry. On the island – that hosted the Ibero-American Animation Quirino Awards annually since 2018 – the animation sector contributed 19 million euros in 2024, signifying 32% of the total investment in Tenerife’s audiovisual industry
