Hot Take

In the animation-madeep, change is the only constant. So, hold onto your sketch pads, folks! Formerly a two-man show, Cartoon Brew is now getting its caricatures drawn by a new artist – Jamie Lang. With his knack for journalism and love for all things moving and illustrated, we’re hoping to see this Brew become the hot coffee of animation news, leaving a unique aftertaste of editorial finesse and passion for animation. Amid Amidi might’ve said goodbye, but with Jamie Lang, it’s a colorful hello we’re all looking forward to. May the Lang-brewed Cartoon Brew continue to be our daily dose of “espresso”, keeping us awake to the latest in 3D animation and beyond!

Renowned editor and reporter Jamie Lang now fully owns popular animation news website Cartoon Brew, following acquisition from co-creator Amid Amidi. The immediate change sees Lang as the sole proprietor, publisher, and editor, using his extensive editorial background and animation love to propel one of animation’s most recognised news outlets into a new era.

Jamie Lang, Animation Connoisseur of Cartoon Brew

Lang’s journey in entertainment journalism started in 2016 as a freelance writer for Variety, authoring around 2,000 articles in two different periods there. Over time, he became adept in reporting European and Latin American films and televisions, contributing from top international festivals like San Sebastián (Spain), SANFIC (Chile), Morelia and Guadalajara (Mexico), and SeriesMania (France). His ongoing professional fascination for animation lit up with his first trip to Annecy International Animation Film Festival in 2017.

In April 2022, Lang came on board Cartoon Brew as the editor-in-chief, where he wrote nearly 1,500 articles and was responsible for hundreds of commissioned, edited, and published contents. After a short revisit to Variety as an international features editor, Lang leaped at the chance to claim Cartoon Brew’s assets and take the site’s reins.

Being an avid follower of Cartoon Brew for the past decade, working alongside co-founder, Amid Amidi, as editor-in-chief for two years was a career milestone. When he revealed his plans to sell the company and offered me the chance to take over, it was an unbelievable opportunity that I absolutely could not miss.

Jamie Lang

Lang’s goal is to proceed and extend Cartoon Brew’s artist-centric coverage. This includes emphasizing lesser-known voices and global talents in the animation space, which have been key aspects of the website’s editorial philosophy under Amidi.
