The Animation Station: Highlights from the Forum

Sure, the 12th CEE’s Animation Forum happened, complete with edges-of-seat, heart-throbbing pitches and insightful workshops. It ended with a confetti shower and the champion projects cradled their well-deserved win. It all went down in Pilsen. If it sounds like Eurovision but with quirky animations instead of pop songs, that’s pretty much exactly what it was.

The winners were announced and, no doubt, there were virtual fist pumps, smug acceptance speeches, and probably some tears. With four categories to battle in, the competition was fiercer than a catwalk model in Milan Fashion Week.

A Tween’s Two-cents

In my opinion, attending the CEE Animation Forum feels like being sucked into an episode of “Stranger Things,” but instead of creepy monsters, everything’s bright, colourful and designed to put Pixar out of business! Pitches came fast and furious and if you’ve never seen a grown adult sweat over the anticipation of whether their wizard hedgehog character will land with a panel of judges, well my friend, you’re missing out. Did Shrek ever have to endure this suffering? But, from the pain of creation, we get the beauty of animation – corny, but true. Gird your loins, world, the animation games have just begun and the competition is tenaciously tantalizing! Keep an eye on Skwigly for updates. They have the inside scoop, or so they claim.

An impressive 31 projects across four categories – 9 feature films, 7 TV series, 9 short films, and 6 student shorts – took centre stage in the Pitching Competition. Each project brought to life an array of subjects for a wide audience— from children to adults. Together, these projects managed to pump more than a whopping 40 million EUR into the animation industry.

The exceptional pitches and the immense dedication seen in these phenomenal animated film projects inspired us all. From emerging students to seasoned filmmakers, each one came on stage with unmatched zeal and highly ambitious projects, leaving the audience in awe. It’s gratifying to see projects that were part of our CEE Animation Workshop or Rise and Shine pitching lab arrive well-prepared and begin their victorious journey.
