Presenting the crowning achievements of Fest Anča International Animation Festival’s 17th edition. The award ceremony, held at the historic Žilina Town Theatre on 29 June, spotlighted the winning films and their directors. The winning entries showcased visually stunning and mystical storytelling that connected with the audience in an authentic and captivating way.
Giunluigi Toccafondo’s masterpiece, La Voix des Sirènes, snagged the Anča Award for Best Animated Short and overall Festival winner. The Anča Award for Best Slovak Animated Short was presented to Niko Mlynarčík for his film Wereawolf. These winning animations are now eligible to compete in next year’s Academy Awards short film category.
SPECTACULAR SHORT FILMS COMPETITION
The jury was taken by the compelling visual and auditory presentation of La Voix des Sirènes, that beautifully portrays a mermaid’s struggle to protect her daughters from predators. Special mention went out to Spring, by director Pernille Kjaer. The film depicts the anticipation of Spring in an isolated homestead inhabited by local ghosts and left the jury impressed with its simplicity and technical execution.
The Anča Award for Best Student Animated Short was presented to Zhen Li for his creation, Fur. The animation elucidates how love relationships can deteriorate over time. The film was praised for its effective use of visuals and movement to depict emotions.
SLOVAK SHORTS COMPETITION
The Slovak competition was won by Niko Mlynarčík with his film Wereawolf. The film tells the story of online harassment and manipulation and was admired by the jury for its realistic and unique storytelling.
MUSIC VIDEO COMPETITION AND BEST CHILDREN’S FILM
American director Amanda Bonaiuto’s magnificent work on D’un Feu Secret. was awarded the Best Music Video Award, leaving a deep impression on the jury with its synchronicity with music and immersive visual world.
Lastly, the special kids jury declared Battery Mommy as the Best Film for Children.
