The Fest Anča International Animation Festival isn’t only about animation. The 17th edition, themed Nightmare includes a plethora of activities, from musical performances by renowned international artists like DJ Lycox,m., Zaffer9 and Bolka, to enlightening masterclasses, exhibits, and lectures.

Wednesday

Tucano Urbano (also known as Filip Smith) will kick-start the festival at Stanica Žilina-Záriečie with a stunning 90 minutes of high-tempo Jersey Club rhythms, UKG, and tropical-trance trap music – a sure way to ignite the dance floor!

Thursday

Slovak artist, DJ, and dancer Krishpin will take center stage at the Žilina Municipal Theatre and the New Synagogue following the opening ceremony. His sets, ranging from traditional merengue to contemporary Nigerian cruise music, reflect his Central European Gen Z identity promising alien yet captivating soundscapes.

Friday

On Friday, the festival moves to Žilina-Záriečie Station where duo Zaffer 9 will captivate the audience with their fusion of witch house, hyper-pop, noise, and glitchcore. A film screening of Blood Time and Red String, a 13-year long creation of American director Christiane Cegavske will feature a live soundtrack by Slovak sound artist Bolka.

Friday hosts a range of performers, including Scottish-Czech artist Faolan McGowan’s Evil Medvěd, Slovak music journalist DJ VLZQUES and graphic designer sida100.

To conclude the day, Alina Astrova aka Lolina, will enchant listeners with her haunting melodies and lyrical exploration of social themes.

Saturday

Saturday promises a musical journey with Vienna-based m. whose percussive sets reflect the roots of BIPOC club music. An award-winning contemporary dancer, Martin “Venice” Talaga will deliver the PiNKBUS: Venice Intervention performance while DJ seafur will get the crowd moving with his genre-blending mix.

To conclude the festival, Parisian producer DJ Lycox will energize the audience with his wide genre-spanning soundscapes.

Additional Highlights

Aside from the music, the festival will host masterclasses by the renowned animator Nikita Diakur, workshops led by cinematographer Denisa Buranová, and lectures by ethnologist and historian, Katarína Nádaská.

The festival also features exhibitions by artists like the Slovak animator Martina Malovaníková and Toasted_Bread, as well as a display of posters by visual artist Matej Mihályi.

The festival shall also see the return of the much-anticipated Animation Karaoke Battle – a challenge that showcases creativity through a randomly selected film.
