Delve into the history of movie magic with the remarkable creators Jared and Jerusha Hess. Known for their eccentric characters, their films have created a unique niche in the world of cinema, including Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre. They have now extended their creative frontier to animation with their recent critical masterpiece called Ninety-Five Senses.
“We found the unique concept of working with budding animators quite inviting, hence, we ventured into animation,” shares Jerusha. With a chance to interact and collaborate with new talents, the Hesses accepted the project offered by Utah’s Salt Lake Film Society under its MAST program, made for connecting experienced filmmakers with emerging ones. “The combination of mentoring and collaborating was appealing and hence, we jumped onto the opportunity,” adds Jared.
Jared and Jerusha Hess teamed up with frequent collaborators and scriptwriters, Hubbel Palmer and Chris Bowman. They conceptualized the movie around the five senses: sight, smell, touch, taste, and hearing, which distinctly shapes the chapters of their animated short film – Ninety-Five Senses.
Being formally curated in the Academy Awards’ shortlist for Best Animated Short Film, this film has received numerous accolades at Cannes, Florida, Toronto, and Amsterdam. Humbly embracing the honor, Jared said, “Working with these profoundly talented animators was an extravagant opportunity indeed.”
