Famed Animation company Gigglebug Entertainment from Helsinki has enhanced its 2D animation prowess in Europe with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art studio in the Canary Islands. Operational since the beginning of October, the new studio is fully synchronized with Gigglebug’s existing Helsinki studio, serving both original IP and service work. The company’s CEO and Co-Founder, Anttu Harlin, as well as its Creative Director and Co-Founder, Joonas Utti, and Managing Director, Beth Parker, are at the helm of the operation.

The new creative hub in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, launched with the support of seven dedicated Gigglebug team members who moved from Helsinki. It aims to grow by sourcing fresh talent from the Canary Islands and attracting international artists with the goal of expanding the team to approximately 150 professionals.

Gigglebug presently utilizes three concurrent production pipelines for its top-tier productions and collaborates on a wide range of projects including movies, TV series, and digital content for a star-studded client list that includes Disney, Nickelodeon, Warner Bros. Animation, Atomic Cartoons, DR, and YLE.

Our humble beginnings with a small character with an infectious giggle, have led us on this beautiful journey to becoming a favorite provider of uplifting 2D animation in Europe. To cater to our increasing workload, we created a rather unique ‘Gigglebug Quality of Life Index Measurement’ which helped us identify the best of Europe for animation talent – the polar opposites, the Far North and the Far South. We’ve got both extremes covered – Ice and Sun, Helsinki and Las Palmas. This duo is not your typical pairing you’ll find in travel brochures! Apart from attractive tax incentives for partners, the Canary Islands have incredible potential. We’re fully committed to investing in our employee’s growth and nurturing a positive workplace culture, ensuring the optimum working experience for every individual associated with Gigglebug – be it in the chilly Finnish capital or the sun-drenched Gran Canaria.

-Anttu Harlin (CEO and Co-Founder, Gigglebug)

Past successes of Gigglebug include The Unstoppable Yellow Yeti and 101 Dalmatian Street for Disney, Best & Bester for Nickelodeon International, Last Kids on Earth for Atomic Cartoons, and the 2023 feature Merry Little Batman for Warner Bros. Animation.
