My journey with Hilda and the Troll, an enchanting series by Luke Pearson began in 2015 on a cloudy day in London, inside Orbital Comics. This captivating tale, filled with magical creatures, heartwarming adventures, and unique artistry, remained a favorite of mine and many others ever since.

The series caught the attention of Sony Pictures Entertainment Kids (formerly Silvergate Media), which collaborated with Netflix to bring the vivid illustrations to life in 2018. This eventuation not only garnered critical acclaim, but also brought the series new followers and a highly anticipated second season alongside a feature-length film, Hilda and the Mountain King.

In 2021, it was announced that the series would conclude with its third season. This long-awaited season offers a thrilling journey with an audacious storyline and standalone episodes. Despite minor hiccups, it proved to be a fulfilling adventure for our young heroine.

The third season picks up one year after the events of Hilda and the Mountain King. Hilda and her friends embark on a trip to the mysterious town of Tofoten, known for its inexplicable fairy incidents. This event sparks a hitherto untold story in the Hilda series and takes us through an adventure that reveals an unexpected connection to Hilda’s family lineage.

Not only does this series introduce us to new fantastical creatures, but it also gives us a glimpse into the evolving relationship dynamics of the teen trio – Hilda and her friends – and delves deeper into Hilda’s mother’s character, Johanna. However, as the season nears its end, it becomes evident that there’s a tonal shift from exploring new characters to deepening existing relationships.

Hilda’s third season maintains the exquisite animation quality, seen in the past seasons and the film, making it one of the most visually stunning shows on Netflix. The animation team’s talent shines through even in the subtlest of moments, transitioning seamlessly from hearty moments around a campfire to thrilling encounters with mythical dangers.

Netflix did not let the final season slip through without creating some unforgettable action sequences. Whether it’s an adventure with the cute Woffs during sundown, a perilous encounter with an ancient creature, or a tricky escape from a trap set by the musical Eugene the Merman, each episode is a visual treat that takes you on an unforgettable journey.

I must conclude by saying that the conclusion of the Hilda series is a fitting tribute to the characters we have grown to love.
