Irish Animation Stakes a Claim in Kiddie Territory
–
Mario Domingos, Irish 3D animator, was recently commissioned by RTÉ Kids, Ireland’s national broadcaster, to brew up a series of animated idents.
–
Domingos concocted visuals so vibrant and dynamic, they could outshine a rainbow in a glitter storm. Their aim? To capture the imagination of young viewers.
–
It wasn’t just all fun and giggles – these animations wove in the educational angle, truly embodying the playful yet knowledge-imbued spirit of RTÉ Kids.
Hot Take
In a world where the standard of children’s television is often a mind-numbing loop of repetitive noise, this Irish animation wizard, Mario Domingos, breaks the loop faster than a five-year-old breaks concentration. By creating idents that are just as educational as they are mesmeric, he’s serving up knowledge with a side of captivation. It’s clear that Domingos isn’t just colouring within the lines here, he’s leading the tiny troops towards an animated Renaissance. Picasso better watch his back, because this guy’s making waves – 3D ones.
Mario Domingos, as commissioned by RTÉ, Ireland’s national broadcaster, crafted a series of animated visuals for RTÉ Kids that achieved the goal of capturing the attention of young viewers and reflecting the energetic and educational spirit of the channel.
The Backstory…
RTÉ (Raidió Teilifís Éireann) invited me to design and animate a series of TV intros for their children’s programming, RTÉ Kids.
Creating lively, entertaining, and captivating animations which appeal to young viewers, and at the same time, embody the fun-loving spirit of RTÉ Kids, was the main objective. Each intro is designed to be dynamic, colorful, and consistent with the brand’s mission of entertaining and educating the children of Ireland.
The Production Process…
To create the RTÉ Kids intros, I made use of both Cinema 4D and Houdini, with Redshift for rendering. The playful visuals were initially sketched out and storyboarded, and then translated into a medley of vibrant colors, abstract shapes, and dynamic animations. Cinema 4D was my tool of choice for developing the visual style and the main body of the animation, while Houdini was instrumental in creating engaging effects and detailed simulations, contributing additional elements of movement and thrill. To polish off the final visuals, I utilized After Effects to ensure that each intro stayed true to RTÉ Kids’ lively and imaginative brand essence.
