We have an exciting line-up that includes: Here’s a message from our Festival Director, Lauren Orme: Our Animation Weekender aims to rekindle the spirit of your youth. This event invites you to dive into narratives about growing up while experiencing the animation that formed part of our own upbringing. We’ve created an environment where everyone can reminisce, share emotions, have a great time, and indulge in meaningful conversations afterwards. Our aim is to provide a welcoming space that emphasizes enjoyment, community building, and personal connections. This is your opportunity to rediscover your inner child, get swept away by heartwarming stories, gain new insights, and let loose. We’re excited to welcome you! Here are a few words from the Weekender Festival Director of Manchester Animation Festival & Editor, Co-owner of Skwigly Animation Magazine Dr Steve Henderson: Nostalgia has an enchanting effect on our perception of the past, often beautifying it beyond reality. Politicians use this sentimentality to idealize previous times that weren’t as perfect as they’re portrayed. However, when it comes to animation, nostalgia serves as a pretty gift that enables us to relive the past as it was. As I watch my three-year-old engage with shows that will soon turn nostalgic for them, I also revisit my favorite shows from my own childhood. And even though time has moved on and technology has advanced, the timeless nature of animation allows us to pick up from where we left off and share this magic with the next generation. This unique aspect of animated nostalgia not only revives the past but fills it with vibrant colors. All festival events will be captioned and BSL interpreted and all online screenings and events will be captioned as well. Don’t miss out!
