The Savannah College of Art and Design’s annual Film Festival is bringing cartoons off the screen and into the spotlight. The festival’s signature offering, Pixels and Pencils, will this year be presented in partnership with Variety. The events will see an unprecedented number of shining stars from the world of animation, all vying for an animated chat with Clayton Davis, Variety’s very own chief awards editor.

Unveiling the schedule for the celebrated animation showcase, Pixels and Pencils, at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival this year. Proudly partnered with Variety, we spotlight exceptional animated feature directors and climax with an annual interactive session led by the acclaimed Variety editor, Clayton Davis. This iteration features an unprecedented number of female directors and introduces the first animated short in the discussion panel. The engaging panel discussion is slated for Monday, Oct. 27.

The selected animation masterpieces and their brilliant directors are:

  • Arco (Display by Neon), curated by Ugo Bienvenu
  • Elio (Presented by Pixar), envisioned by Domee Shi and Madeline Sharafian
  • In Your Dreams (A Netflix Original), directed by Alex Woo
  • KPop Demon Hunters (Brought to you by Netflix), from Chris Appelhans and Maggie Kang
  • Little Amélie or the Character of Rain (Under the banner of GKids), a collaboration of Maïlys Vallade and Liane-Cho Han Jin Kuang
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Chrome Alone 2—Lost in New Jersey (A Paramount Pictures Feature), designed by Kent Seki

This panel focuses on animated gems vying for awards, with a notable list of past participants such as Academy Award nominees like Inside Out 2, Memoir of a Snail, The Wild Robot, and the Oscar-winning Flow.
