Hot Take

If we were to anthropomorphize Soho, we’d get the gist of Soho Nights. It’s like taking a late-night stroll with Soho itself as your guide, spinning tales of good, bad, ugly and sensationally scandalous history. It’s a semi-gentrified old timer, winking at you from a graffiti-laden corner, throwing neon-lit directions to dodgy but fascinating locales. And, chewing gum is its own version of social media, sticking around to tell tales of people who’ve strolled along its pavements. Soho Nights is more than a memoir; it’s a love letter to a district that refuses to lose its color, quite literally and metaphorically, amidst layers of gentrification and time. Grab your virtual walking shoes, and brace yourself for an off-beat tour of Soho from the comfort of your reading nook.

Experience ‘Soho Nights’- a vivid portrayal of this dynamic area’s intriguing charm and unique narratives. Explore the transformed red light district and observe it’s glimmering history coexisting with the modern times.

Navigate through the characteristic narrow streets adorned with defiant massage parlours, graffiti-strewn doorways, paving encrusted with chewing gum, and new-age e-bike hurdles. When midnight strikes in Soho, an eclectic mix of inhabitants come to life- including nighttime drifters waiting for an elusive night bus, a stripper on a break, a street cleaner at the grind, and nocturnal road workers.

Experience the Post-clubbing heartbeat that is too often forgotten in the haze of the night’s memory by the revellers left behind by their Uber rides.

Get to know me and my love for Soho…

I am a Soho admirer who has been basking in its spirit for over 16 years now. We run a studio, Seed, nestled right in the heart of Brewer Street, presenting a window into Soho’s vibrant life. My love for Soho gave birth to the film, which was inspired by the strippers of Stringfellows, our neighbours. The misadventures of our moving day, the omnipresence of mice in our first studio, and the midnight musings at the closed bus stop, all add to the narrative, making it much more personal.

I have always been fond of Soho’s doors- a canvas for creative and transitory graffiti art. The transient nature of graffiti- here one day, gone the other- is a fascinating chaos that I attempted to document in the film. Our studio’s door too has gone through multiple transformations over the years.

As an admirer of world-building and aesthetics, this film offered me a chance to play with the stark contrast of neon lights against the serene darkness of the night.

The behind-the-scenes of the film…
