Spark CG Society, the steward of computer graphics artistry, has rolled out details for its Oscar-accredited festival, SPARK ANIMATION 2023! Soak in the in-person screenings from 9-12 November 2023, and enjoy the online presentations from 13 November to 31 December 2023.
Immerse yourself in the magical universe of animation at SPARK ANIMATION 2023, the biggest animation fest in Western Canada! With exciting premieres, insightful conversations, and globally-renowned speakers, this spectacular event guarantees a remarkable experience.
CONFERENCE OVERVIEW
This year’s conference unveils presentations on some of the most riveting animated projects of 2023, including:
The conference is also thrilled to host award-winning author and historian Mindy Johnson, to share her latest pioneering revelation about the work of Bessie Mae Kelley.
FESTIVAL PREMIERES
This year’s festival will feature several unmissable premieres, including:
- World Premiere of The Worlds Collide by Victoria-based indie director Denver Jackon; he will be in attendance;
- BC Premiere of cinematically delicious Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget; Director Sam Fell will grace the occasion;
- Canadian Premiere of enchanting Pencils VS Pixels; Producer Tom Bancroft will be present;
- Canadian Premiere of inimitable Scarygirl. Co-director Tania Vincent and creator Nathan Jurevicius will be in attendance;
- Canadian Premiere of the stunning Slide with Director Bill Plympton gracing the event;
- World Premiere of compelling Ostinato, a project from Women in Animation‘s ACE Program of Vancouver. All program participants will be in attendance.
Additionally, the festival will screen over 100 riveting short films, including renowned director Andrew Ruhemann’s film, The Day I Became a Bird, John Musker’s I’m Hip, and Canadian director Janet Perlman’s The Girl with the Red Beret.
COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS
SPARK ANIMATION 2023 will expand free screenings as part of our effort to engage and support the local community. This includes community screenings of Scarygirl and Kensuke’s Kingdom and many short film programs.
Moreover, the festival will feature a vibrant Career Fair and an Artist Alley showcasing more than 50 creators, both free to attend.
