Studio AKA and Joe Wicks Enable Siphoning Energy Out of Kids through Animation!
Nationwide Energy Release Program: The Melding of Fitness and Animation
With a well-thought-out blend of fitness instructions and dynamic 3D animation, each episode of Activate is designed like a little fitness bar – unwrapped, chewed, then turned into pure kinetic energy by schools and families across the country. Joe Wicks hits the gym, and the transformer Studio AKA turns it into a high-powered animated inspiration – Kinder energy!
Initiative Goals: Burn Energy, Build More!
The end game here is to lay the groundwork for lifetimes of health and fitness, planting the seed of activity in young minds through the magic of animation. Well, I guess, it’s time for kids to move more than just their thumbs on controllers and phones.
My Hot Take
Let’s face it—getting kids to move is harder than trying to animate a stick figure with two left feet. Cue fitness coach Joe Wicks and Studio AKA’s call to action: why not leverage our capacity to make interacting pixels look cool and inspire movement? Brilliant! It’s almost like tricking kids into thinking running around is just as fun as watching their favorite animated series. Hence, the birth of “Activate,” a 5-minute powerhouse of energy-siphoning animation and exercise. If this doesn’t get the little muffins moving, I don’t know what will! Here’s to hoping parents across the nation appreciate this genius break in their “keep-the-kids-occupied” routine, and the couch potatoes turn into fitness potatoes. Well, at least I’m entertained!
Meet the new fitness craze for kids this summer! Fitness guru, Joe Wicks MBE, has partnered with the government to motivate children throughout the UK to increase their physical activity.
Presenting the groundbreaking animated series, Activate, designed to energize your kids with short, fun movement breaks accompanied by upbeat music from Universal Music UK. This government-supported initiative further promises ten more amazing episodes for the benefit of kids’ physical and mental health.
In collaboration with Joe and BAFTA award-winning Studio AKA (creators of Hey Duggee), the series brings Joe Wicks’ fitness expertise to animated life for the very first time.
Activate is integral to the government’s 10 Year Health Plan, which emphasizes the immense importance of preventive practices and aims to transform the NHS towards prioritizing prevention as much as treatment.
The series was unveiled at Barking’s Ripple Primary School in east London, where Joe Wicks and the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting, emphasized the importance of keeping kids active during the summer and beyond.
Health and Social Care Secretary Wes Streeting remarked:
Inactivity is a major contributor to childhood obesity. That’s why it’s necessary to instill healthy habits early on.
Our 10 Year Health Plan outlines how we plan on tackling obesity purely through preventive measures. We are determined to form a strong coalition to address this obesity crisis head-on.
This initiative aligns perfectly with our focus on giving children the best start to a healthy life—a fundamental element of our Plan for Change. By investing in preventive approaches today, we’re working towards healthier future generations.
Physical activity is beneficial to both physical and mental health and helps alleviate the NHS’s current pressure, preventing an extra £10.5 billion of treatments each year. Despite this, physical inactivity remains high among kids and adults alike. The Activate programme aims to collaboratively overcome this growing health issue.
Get started right away! The first episode is available now on Joe Wicks’ The Body Coach YouTube channel, and awaits you every week throughout the summer holidays.
Five years post the widely appreciated ‘PE with Joe’ which garnered over 100 million online views, Joe is ready with a renewed mission to get children moving through this series.
Joe Wicks expressed:
Activate is a culmination of my decade long work. Since my YouTube workout beginnings to ‘PE with Joe’ during the pandemic, my ultimate goal has been to boost kids’ physical and mental wellness.
This project merges my passions and life-learnings, including my childhood experiences. Activate is tailored to make exercise fun for all kids – easily accessible, whether in the living room, garden, classroom or elsewhere!
I believe in making exercise enjoyable for kids, not a chore. Activate embodies this ethos, and I hope it proves helpful for busy families now and in the future.
In light of increasing rates of childhood obesity, the government’s 10 Year Health Plan was announced recently. This comprehensive prevention plan is pivotal to addressing the nation’s health and curbing obesity.
With obesity rates doubling since the 90s, including among children, an alarming one in five children are obese by the end of primary school. This rate increases to almost one in three in areas of high poverty and deprivation.
Key strategies of the 10 Year Health Plan are:
- Initiating an unprecedented partnership with food retailers and manufacturers to facilitate healthier choices
- Regulating child-targeted junk food advertising
- Reconstructing the soft drinks industry levy to encourage healthier reformulation
This dual strategy addresses the UK’s most preventable chronic diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases and aims to reduce the £11.4 billion expenditure the NHS incurs due to obesity.
Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Lisa Nandy, elucidated:
Sport and physical activity are paramount to shaping a child’s life. We’re investing £400 million in grassroots facilities, building partnerships between schools and local sports clubs, and endorsing major inspiring events.
We’ve hit a standstill on participation in physical activities for far too long. With initiatives like Activate, we aim to reverse this trend and manifest our Plan for Change.
Working with Universal Music UK as the exclusive music partner, each episode features rhythmic tunes from UK artists, tailored to appeal to both parents and children.
Sarah Boorman from Universal Music UK, commented:
Our joint objective with Joe is to make physical activity appealing to children, powered by suitable music enjoyed by all families.
Sue Goffe, Studio AKA CEO, added:
We’re excited to bring Activate to life through animation. Collaborating with Joe Wicks has been a delight and we’re proud to contribute creatively to motivate kids towards fitness and wellness.
Alison Lomax, YouTube UK & Ireland MD, said:
We’re thrilled that Activate, Joe Wicks’ new fitness show for kids, will be airing on YouTube just in time for the holidays. Joe’s fun, energetic methods of getting children active have hugely positively influenced our platform. Activate will be a favorite go-to for families looking to stay active this summer and beyond. We are pleased that YouTube can host accessible, free, and family-friendly fitness content.
Activate (Studio AKA)
About the Programme
Studio AKA, creators of Hey Duggee and BAFTA winners, created the Activate series. It introduces an animated Joe Wicks interacting with six fun characters, ‘The Activators’, to popular UK artist tunes. They endeavor to make movement feel personal, playful, and inclusive so all children can connect.
Joe and the Activators guide children through exciting, five-minute movement spurts, conveniently fitting into any part of the day. Be it at home, at summer clubs, or on the go.
On making his animated debut, Joe promises that each episode will be brimming with energy and fun, engaging kids in various exercises like jogging, squats, and burpees, in a fun, gamified format to keep children moving this summer holidays and beyond.
Activate will also be accessible to schools during term time, helping children build confidence, boost mental wellness, and instill healthy habits for life.
Joe added:
Seeing myself as an animated character has been a unique and amazing experience. My dream is to connect and inspire millions of children and families across the UK and beyond.
