Super Mr. Woods is using the charming allure of animation to provide a few laughs and tickle our brains. What’s the inspiration behind it?
Our evolving consumerist society served as a major inspiration. As we dive further into the digital age, trends emerge overnight—be it TikTok dances, Bitcoin, GPT, or Labubu. This chaotic, overwhelming, ceaseless motion uncovers a strange tension between hope and frenzy, embodied by the elusive Mr. Woods in my film.
Peeling back the curtain…
This idea stemmed from my fascination with casino dwellers, especially elderly ones tirelessly pulling the arms of glaring, vibrant machines.
The magnetism of this sight lingered with me, creating an unnameable feeling. Creating this film helped me identify that emotion.
How did it come to life?

We applied digital 2D animation and rotoscoping to craft this film. By tracing over live actors’ performances, we ensured realistic movement in the animation. The animated characters then found their place in hand-drawn backgrounds. This approach resonates with the film’s realistic style that delves into social issues based on real-life settings.
