Anticipate the global reveal of the stop-motion animated movie, Stories from the Magic Garden, at the esteemed Berlin International Film Festival 2025. A heartwarming tale birthed from the fairytale book of Arnošt Goldflam, it embodies the essence of imaginative narration. A combination of fantasy, comedy and touching theme of loss, the film teaches how imagination can be a healing tool amidst hardship.

The narrative revolves around three children experiencing their first overnight at their grandfather’s home after their grandmother’s departure. With the loss of their revered narrator, the trio invests in their own imaginative journey of stories, simultaneously learning the power of storytelling as a coping mechanism in lifetimes of challenge and solace.

A true international collaboration, this film joins the creative efforts of Maurfilm (Czech Republic), Artichoke (Slovakia), ZVVIKS (Slovenia), and Vivement Lundi! (France), under the guidance of seasoned animation producers Martin Vandas, Alena Vandasová, Juraj Krasnohorsky, Henrieta Cvangová, Kolja Saksida, Jean-François Le Corre and Mathieu Courtois. The film’s production also acknowledges the role of the CEE Animation network in fostering the relationships between these creators.

Alena Vandasová, Maurfilm’s producer comments on the arduous yet rewarding journey, stating the world premiere privilege as a satisfying payoff for the decade-long joint venture. Similarly, ZVVIKS’s producer Kolja Saksida, terms the film as groundbreaking considering it’s the first full-length animation with a Slovenian producer and director sharing equal contributions.

The multiple creative teams worked cohesively, under the direction of David Súkup (Czech Republic), Patrik Pašš (Slovakia), Leon Vidmar (Slovenia) and Jean-Claude Rozec (France). The screenplay combines the efforts of acclaimed writers Jerneja Kaja Balog and Maja Križnik, Blandine Jet, Patrik Pašš, Marek Král and Petr Krajíček with the artistic design realizing the touch of Patricia Ortiz Martínez and Jean-Claude Rozec.

Director Jean-Claude Rozec highlights the film’s exceptional approach sharing light on topics of death often omitted in children’s content. He hails the producers’ boldness to tread this sensitive topic carefully. Slovenian director, Leon Vidmar, comments on the shared vision and the film’s fruition through true teamwork.

Lucia Chuťková, the film’s music composer, talks about the challenges and inspirations of creating a harmonious musical universe that ties together four different directorial visions with their distinctive characters.

The film is set to feature in the Generation Kplus Competition, a festival segment dedicated to content for younger audiences. Following its Berlinale launch on February 16th, it takes a sneak preview at the Cartoon Movie in March 2025, further establishing its anticipation for the year.
