Competitive Wins & Recognition:

And there you have it, folks! Magic Light Pictures is waltzing away with yet another BAFTA under its belt, etching their name deeper in the chronicles of great animation. It seems that not only does the velvety protagonist of their film know the ropes of magic, but they do too. Perhaps it’s their formula of weaving narratives centered around love and warmth that resonates with both their young audience, but also the icy hearts of award judges. The Emmys now the BAFTAs, what’s next for this fluffy tour-de-force? A Grammy for best soundtrack? Whatever it is, they seem set on a path to conquer all planets in the entertainment galaxy!

Magic Light Pictures, esteemed producer of animation for family viewing, has earned a BAFTA in the recently launched Children’s Craft Team category with their touching film, The Velveteen Rabbit, which venerates the transformative power of pure love.

The film’s success continues with this BAFTA after triumphing at the Children’s & Family Emmy® Awards where it received awards for Best Fiction Special and Best Young Performer in a Preschool, Children’s or Young Teen Program, acclaimed to Phoenix Laroche.

Screenplay writer Tom Bidwell, along with team members Jennifer Perrot, Rick Thiele, Sarah Brewerton, Anna Rackard and James Mather, accepted the award and expressed:

We are incredibly grateful for this BAFTA recognition, and novexpress our sincere gratitude to everyone at Apple TV+,  Producers Bianca Rodway and Martin Pope and the exemplary team at Magic Light Pictures. A huge thank you is also in order for every animator and the live action team, whose collective skills and cooperative spirit truly embody the essence of television production.

The Velveteen Rabbit, released on Apple TV+ in November 2023, is a charming adaptation of the beloved children’s novel by Margery Williams, portraying the infinite possibilities of love through the story of a seven-year-old boy and his magical Christmas toy.

The 40-minute presentation boasts an impressive ensemble cast, with Alex Lawther voicing the Velveteen Rabbit, Helena Bonham Carter playing Wise Horse, Nicola Coughlan as Playroom Fairy, Bethany Antonia as White Rabbit, Lois Chimimba as Mechanical Car, Paterson Joseph as King, Clive Rowe as Lion, Nathaniel Parker as Brown Rabbit, and introducing Phoenix Laroche as William. Producing the film is Martin Pope, co-founder of Magic Light Pictures, with a screenplay by BAFTA recipient Tom Bidwell.
