A thrilling announcement has just been made by BBC and Magic Light Pictures – the multi-Oscar nominated producers. They will soon be releasing an animated adaption of The Scarecrows’ Wedding, a story birthed from the creative minds of UK’s top picture book creators, Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. The interesting story will make its debut on BBC iPlayer and BBC One this upcoming Christmas season.
The animated special, which lasts for half an hour, boasts a star-studded voice cast including returning loved celebrity Rob Brydon, known for his roles in Gavin and Stacey, The Trip) and he will be giving voice to the character, Reginald Rake. We also have Jessie Buckley highlited in Wicked Little Letters and Wild Rose delivering the voice for Betty O’Barley, and Domhnall Gleeson, memorable in About Time and Alice and Jack, will be the voice behind Harry O’Hay. All under the lead of the talented Sophie Okonedo known for Slow Horses and Hotel Rwanda, who narrates the story.

This animated film,The Scarecrows’ Wedding, owes its origin to a highly successful picture book authored by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler. This film, being the 13th animated special adapted from their work by Magic Light Pictures for the BBC, comes with high hopes. Last year’s animation, Tiddler, reeled in 7.3 million viewers, marking the highest audience share for a Magic Light Pictures film since The Gruffalo aired in 2009.
The Scarecrows’ Wedding is directed by Samantha Cutler and Jeroen Jaspaert and brought to life with the production efforts by Barney Goodland and Micheal Rose from Magic Light Pictures. The film was selected for production by Charlotte Moore, BBC Chief Content Officer, and Nawfal Faizullah, BBC Drama Commissioning Editor.
