The CEE Animation Forum, renowned for its regional pitching, financing, and co-production opportunities in the animation industry, is elated to reveal the 2024 official selection ahead of their upcoming 12th edition, scheduled to be held in Pilsen, Czech Republic, on November 12-13.

Owing to a record-breaking 123 applications from 31 countries, a total of 31 projects, categorized into 9 features, 7 TV series, 9 short films, and 6 student films have been shortlisted for this year’s event. Showcasing a remarkable 30 percent increase from last year, this surge in applications reinstates CEE Animation’s status as a prime platform fostering international co-productions and advocating animation creativity.

In reference to the officially chosen 2024 lineup, an eclectic mix of CEE countries and more developed Western Europe markets are represented. Around 70% lineup belongs to CEE with Czech Republic (6), Hungary (4) and Poland (4) featuring prominently. Furthermore, CEE Animation continues to uphold their commitment to gender equality with slightly more than half the selected projects led by female directors and producers.

The handpicked 31 projects, at different production stages, present an intriguing collection of stirring narratives, ranging from adaptations of celebrated children’s classics and fabricated biographies to intricate personal studies of multifaceted themes.

Geared to cater to diverse audiences, the lineup includes 8 projects for children below 12, 6 projects for teens, 6 for young adults and 11 aimed at mature viewers. Continuing the trend, hand-drawing continues to dominate as the preferred animation technique, featured in 16 projects, with 2D animation being a close second, utilized in 14 projects. Amplifying the creative potential of 3D animation and the unique allure of stop motion animation are also part of this year’s selection.

"The announcement of this year’s stellar lineup, boasting a record number of applications and outstanding quality projects, reinforces our standing in the global animation scene. The eclectic selection testifies not only to the diversity of creative talents in play but also to our resolve in championing gender equality and nurturing emerging talents in the field of animation", adds Marta Jallageas, the managing director of the event.

The CEE Animation Forum consists of key activities including a Pitching competition, a Market and One-to-one meetings,. The Market was introduced in 2023 to serve as a professional platform for animation industry members to showcase their projects and facilitates participants to secure accreditations for their projects at any stage of development.

Applications for CEE Animation Forum accreditations will commence in September 2024.

CEE Animation Forum receives financial support from International Visegrad Fund, Czech Film Fund, Audiovisual Producers´ Association CZ, Ministry of Culture Czech Republic and Pilsen Region.
