Award-winning Animator Torill Kove Honored by SPARK ANIMATION
Acclaimed Oscar-winning animator Torill Kove was recently celebrated in Vancouver at SPARK ANIMATION, the biggest animation festival in Western Canada, organized by the Spark Computer Graphics Society.
The festival recognized Torill Kove’s significant contribution in the world of animation by presenting her the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Canadian Film Prize for her latest short film, Maybe Elephants. The short film was a joint effort by Mikrofilm and the National Film Board of Canada (NFB).
The award honors Maybe Elephants which has already won four awards including the Short Film – Audience Prize at South Korea’s Bucheon International Animation Festival and Best Nordic-Baltic Animated Youth Film at Norway’s Fredrikstad Animation Festival.
“I’m deeply honored and moved by the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Spark Animation festival. This gives me an opportunity to look back on how fortunate I’ve been to have a career as an animation director with the National Film Board of Canada and the Norwegian animation studio Mikrofilm. I am exceedingly grateful to these two animation studios and everyone who has worked with me on my films. I see this award as recognition of my work and a motivation to continue creating more films.”

With this, Torill Kove has collaborated with NFB and Norway’s Mikrofilm for the fourth time. The partnership has spanned over two decades and resulted in three Academy Award-nominated shorts including her 2007 Oscar winner, The Danish Poet.
Maybe Elephants, produced by Maral Mohammadian (NFB) and Lise Fearnley (Mikrofilm), continues its festival tour this month at the London International Animation Festival, screening online and in theaters from November 22 to December 1. The film has been chosen by more than 20 festivals so far, including major ones like Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France, LA’s Animation Is Film and AFI FEST, Toronto International Film Festival and Ottawa International Animation Festival.
