Now, with my hot take!
Didn’t I tell y’all that the UK’s animation scene is as tenacious as an overcaffeinated beaver? Proving it once more, Animation UK is teaming up with the high-flyers of the animation world, the kind of gang that makes your Saturday morning cartoons look like finger paintings. Teaming up with CARTOON and getting BBC Children’s and Education’s green tick, they’re launching the “Animated UK Meets Europe” initiative – think of it as Eurovision, but with less questionable costumes and better artistry. And the stage they’re doing it on? The Cartoon Forum 2025, the animation world’s answer to Coachella! As a collaboration, this powwow was instrumental in getting the UK’s creative juices flowing straight into Europe. Now they’re back for an encore, and if it’s anything like the original, we’re in for a banger! Brilliant stuff really, isn’t it? After all, it’s always exciting to see great talents remind us that the world of animation isn’t flat – it’s a beautifully rendered 3D expanse!
Exciting news as Animation UK teams up with CARTOON and BBC Children’s and Education to relaunch the “UK Animation Meets European Creativity” project at the 2025 Cartoon Forum.
This venture has played a key role in establishing and building European alliances, highlighting the unique skills and creativity from the UK in European regions. We can’t wait to be back in Toulouse encouraging UK producers and cultivating fresh co-production opportunities across Europe.
Diving into the initiative
We’re staging a exclusive session on Wednesday 17 September afternoon, spotlighting two innovative UK animation projects in need of European co-production and distribution alliances. This selected event supplements the official European project presentations and is designed to highlight emerging talents and foster new artistic synergies.
To further underscore the significance of international teamwork, a panel discussion on the critical role of co-productions is also scheduled. This discussion, steered by Vanessa Chapman, will unite prominent European figures to share insights, successful case studies and will include BBC’s Sarah Muller.
As one of the major platforms for animation producers to engage with international buyers and commissioners, Cartoon Forum is an event we look forward to. Our UK Animation Meets European Creativity project embodies the creative and commercial promise that a UK–EU alliance represents. In a world where international collaborations are incredibly beneficial, we highly recommend UK delegates to join us at the Cartoon Forum, establish new ties, and explore the wide range of opportunities this unique event provides.
Kate O’Connor, Executive Chair of Animation UK
With BBC Children’s and Education, we are back at the Cartoon Forum to support this vital industry and build on the success of the previous UK Animation panel. Our aim: to spotlight our domestic talents alongside Europe’s finest. By teaming up with UK Animation and the Cartoon Forum, our goal is to boost and elevate the global animation industry.
