Blinkink, the decorated production studio winning accolades for creating engaging shortform video content, will be lending its support to the chosen animators. In collaboration with FLAMIN, the studio aims to assist them throughout their development and production journey and foster them with essential skills to excel in the industry.
FLAMIN Animations’ previous works have graced venues like BFI Southbank, South London Gallery, FORMA, Humber Street Gallery, and many more, along with festivals like London International Animation Festival, Ottawa International Animation Festival, etc. Not only this, but they have also garnered accolades like Margaret Tait Commission from LUX Scotland and had their work presented on public screens worldwide through the CIRCA Prize. These gamut of achievements couldn’t have been possible without the tireless help from The New Black Film Collective’s event, the TNB XPO, celebrating Black excellence in the screen industries.
Faye Craig, FLAMIN Animator from 2024, disclosed her experience:
FLAMIN Animations offered me an invaluable chance to enhance my skills. The helpful workshops led by industry experts and the consistent development meetings were immensely supportive. FLAMIN is the reason I now have a mentor, a wide network of professionals, and an enriched portfolio. The guidance I received is something I am extremely thankful for.
Yasmine Djedje-Fisher-Azoume, FLAMIN Animator from 2023, shared her journey:
FLAMIN Animations facilitated me with the extraordinary opportunity to create Dédé (Ancestor), my short experimental animated film that focuses on my Bété ancestry and diasporic female identity. This program not only facilitated this creation but also assured the importance of supporting underrepresented narratives in the animation industry. This program has significantly contributed to my growth as an artist and to represent my cultural narratives in contemporary animation.
Adrian Wootton OBE, Chief Executive of Film London, stated:
In the fifth year of FLAMIN Animations, we are thrilled to reveal the selected artists. With a track record of our alumni earning recognition and their work being screened at various festivals and events, we are excited to continue our collaboration with Blinkink. Our initiative aims to assist emerging Black and global majority artists in laying the groundwork for a career in the industry, and we look forward to witnessing this year’s commissions unfold.
