Summing it All Up:
If you thought you were seeing some cutting-edge animations before, strap in because it’s about to get wild! The Asian Animation Summit is preparing to shake things up with their new Wild Card program. With their magnifying glasses ready to seek out fresh, unaffiliated talent in the Asia Pacific region, it’s like a Disney Princess story for budding animators. They’re watching, people, so perfect those pixels, charm those characters, and make those models memorable! Let’s face it, they’re not just leveling up; they’re power-upping and hit-comboing the whole animation game. Grab your popcorn, folks, and brace yourselves for the animation revolution.
We’re thrilled to reveal that the eagerly-anticipated Asian Animation Summit, Kidscreen’s annual celebration of the finest new animated series for kids in the Asia Pacific, will introduce a cutting-edge Wild Card program this year. This program is exclusively open to the region’s creators who currently don’t have representation from the trade agencies partnering with AAS.
We’re now accepting project submissions for this innovative, fee-based pathway online through Friday, August 16. Chosen producers will receive the unique opportunity of seven hours of pre-summit mentorship from industry veteran Michael Carrington, who has formerly held high-profile roles at CBeebies and ABC TV’s children’s division. They will also get a chance to pitch their projects live at the event and enjoy six fruitful one-on-one meetings with potential investors and buyers. Further details about the Wild Card program can be found at aas.kidscreen.com/2024/program.
The Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) is all set to host AAS 2024 at the upscale W Hotel in Taipei City, from November 19 to 21. Attendees will immerse themselves in a compelling showcase of new animated TV ideas for kids from across the Asia Pacific region during this three-day extravaganza, along with networking and meeting opportunities aplenty.
Currently celebrating its ninth year, the Asian Animation Summit has a highly successful track record – over 50% of the featured projects have reached the production stage! The globally popular preschool series Bluey was first discovered at AAS 2016 by none other than BBC Worldwide.
The event seems to be a magnet for animation producers keen on co-producing projects with Asian partners, as well as a host of broadcasters, distributors, and investors from the Asia Pacific and beyond. We anticipate around 200 attendees this year.
Online registrations for AAS 2024 are now live. Ensure you grab our US$795 Early-Bird offer, valid up until August 30. More details about this year’s big event can be discovered at aas.kidscreen.com.
