Open Call 4 – SAR24 Residency Throws Open Its Doors Yet Again!
The Power of Animation for Environmental Advocacy
A Once in a Lifetime Opportunity to Project Your Environmental Affairs on a Virtual Canvas
Well, turn my pixels and call me animated! The Sustainability Animation Residency (also known as SAR) is at it again, bringing its fourth open call to submit applications. It seems these folks are keen on giving voices to trees, skies, oceans and maybe even plastic bags, by marrying the dire urgency of environmental action with the charismatic charm of animation.
Pack your bags for a six-week virtual trip during their SAResidency (say that three times fast!). If you are the chosen one, you can make your own short film about how Mr. Sun is getting a tan due to global warming or how Mrs. Polar bear is planning to relocate because her ice condo is melting.
Hot Take:
In the world of animation, where paintbrushes are swapped for stylus and canvases are just an illusion sprung on your screens, SAR seems to be taking quite a green path. Who’d have thought that we’d see the day where Bugs Bunny might get replaced by an animated tree advocating for climate change? It’s all going down in the SAResidency, and if you’re an animator with an affinity for green, this could be your golden ticket. Now, I just hope that they accept a sitcom script featuring a grumpy recyclable bottle and an overly enthusiastic compost bin.
Fourth Open Call for the Sustainability Animation Residency – SAR Now Accepting Applications! The SAR is a wonderful platform dedicated to magnifying environmental concerns using the impactful medium of animation. In our six-week residency, the selected director will get the opportunity to weave a short animation film revolving around environmental issues, with complete creative control over the animation techniques. We are thrilled to introduce two Principal Partners to our team: Mathieu Rey, Co-founder of TNZPV An animation studio and Eleanor Coleman, a well-established producer of multiple award-winning animation films. The valuable insights from Mathieu and Eleanor have greatly influenced the SAR Jury’s decisions in the past and will continue to do so in the future. The mission of SAR is to reward one captivating proposal themed around ‘Eco Ani Short’, discussing any environmental issues, ranging from climate change, futurism in food and farming, sustainable city planning, pollution and waste management all the way up to sustainable fashion and beyond and anything else pertinent to the environmental context. SAR, located in close proximity to Arles, hopes to connect with the diverse array of talents within the animation industry, prevalent in the regions of Arles, Avignon, Montpellier, and Marseille, with the intent to foster creative excellence globally. The chosen director will engage in weekly meetings with either local animation experts or international mentors online. SAResidency sponsorships include paid travel, local transport, accommodations, daily stipend, and a special two-day visit to the Annecy Animation Festival. The residency culminates in a glamorous event, CinéSAR, where the SAResident’s project is unveiled. An applicant must be a graduate from a recognized institute of art, film, or animation and should qualify as a director or a creative professional.
