The ANIMARKT Stop Motion Forum, an unparalleled event in the stop-motion animation industry, has revealed the 21 finalists for this year’s Pitching section. These unique filmmakers will have an opportunity to showcase their projects to international experts, producers, and primary production studios, establishing global careers in animation and winning awards that bring them closer to their goals.
We received an incredible number of entries, 120 to be exact, from 33 different countries for this year’s ANIMARKT Stop Motion Forum, which is a clear indication of the growing global interest in stop-motion animation. The submitted projects, hailing from places like India, Europe, Chile, and the United States, have truly astounded us with their diversity and innovation.
Director of the Forum – Paulina Zacharek, Momakin CEO
From engaging family dramas and horror comedies to surrealism and thought-provoking documentaries, the projects cover a broad spectrum of stop-motion animation genres, themes, and techniques. The finalists will be sharing film ideas, including documentaries and series for young viewers, which tackle contemporary issues such as migration, identity, environmental sustainability, etc.
The presented projects vary in their production costs and stages of development. Some have already secured a part of their budget and are seeking additional funding, co-producers, and distribution assistance. All these aspects will influence the expert evaluation of the final pitching presentations at ANIMARKT.
Marianna Piskorz, the Forum Director
Films that have been pitched at ANIMARKT are more likely to see completion, as evidenced by the film “Hello Summer” winning the main prize during the Forum in 2021 and picking up the audience award at the most prestigious festival for the animation industry in Annecy in 2024.
Participating in ANIMARKT 2021 gave me invaluable feedback from Nancy Denney-Phelps and other consultants on the story and presentation, and it also presented me with an opportunity to work with French co-producer Jean-Francois LeCorre of Vivement Lundi, who offered his support right after the Pitching. This resulted in a fantastic collaboration, allowing us to create the entire Hello Summer soundtrack in France, aside from obtaining the rights to the famous Douliou Douliou Saint Tropez soundtrack.
Martin Smatana, director of Hello Summer
Finalists stand to win a plethora of prizes that will help bring their projects to fruition. The awards include, among others, a PLN 40,000 voucher from Wrocław Feature Film Studio, APA LAB Awards package, Animond Award’s marketing consultation, Dragonframe 5 software, accreditations for the Animator Pro festival, and event from Animator International Animation Film Festival.
We at the Wrocław Feature Film Studio are thrilled to support the Pitching at ANIMARKT Stop Motion Forum, where we get to work with exceptional projects from all over the world. By lending our experience and creativity, we not only enrich our portfolio but also help these projects achieve their full potential.
Robert Banasiak, Director of the Wrocław Feature Film Studio
Before the final Project Pitching during the Forum, creators will receive professional support in crafting successful presentations. Participating creators are currently undergoing training sessions online and on-site given by stop motion industry experts. The announcement of winners will be made at the Forum’s final evening gala on 17th October at Mediateka MeMo in Lodz, Poland.
The Pitching section has two categories—one for short film projects and the other focuses on feature film and TV series projects. Both categories mandate that at least 80% of the animation must be done in stop-motion. This year, again, a mandatory inclusion in the submission was a sustainable production plan.
