The Honey Wars: An Animated Adventure from Kavaleer Productions
For the first time ever, Kavaleer Productions is venturing into the realm of animated films and transforming Sir John Boorman’s The Honey Wars into an enchanting movie for families. The project has already sparked excitement among a star-studded cast featuring Jamie Lee Curtis, Vanessa Kirby, Patrick Stewart, Brendan Gleeson, Richard E Grant, and Jon Voight.
With a reputation for producing renowned films such as Point Blank, Deliverance, Excalibur and Hope and Glory, Boorman is an esteemed British director, producer, and scriptwriter. He will serve as Story Consultant and EP for our film, which is currently receiving support and backing from Screen Ireland/Fís Éireann’s ‘Creative Futures’ grant. Boorman is a longtime advocate and co-founder of Screen Ireland’s predecessor, The Irish Film Board, established in 1981.
Our film, The Honey Wars (1 x 90’), is a whimsical fantasy with a comical twist, born from Boorman’s rich storytelling. Adapted for the big screen by industry professionals Alan Keane & Andrew Kavanagh, this magical adventure invites viewers into a mystical universe where past battles still influence the present in surprising ways. Get ready to explore an incredible story unfolding under the grand old tree in a forgotten forest.
The story surrounds Hope, a young girl who can perceive the unseen connections between our world and the magical realm. Hope’s life has taken a turn after the loss of her mother and she finds comfort in a hidden conflict from the past, involving two feuding tribes: the Fairies and the Elves.
Embarking on a new journey, Hope befriends Alfred, a cheeky exiled Elf, and Fiona, an ostracized fairy with her personal woes. Together, they dig up past truths and start the journey of healing the wounds of yesteryears, initiate peace between the tribes and curtail the sinister plans of the wicked Esmerelda in a universe tainted by war.
The Honey Wars is a delightful tale where laughter intertwines with deep-rooted themes of loss and healing. Amid all the fantasy, the movie underscores authentic emotions and relationships. The story of Hope is about understanding and healing the battles that shape us.
“I am overjoyed to see this magical tale come alive and touch infinitive hearts just like it touched mine,” said Sir John Boorman.
Andrew Kavanagh, Founder and CEO of Kavaleer Productions, adds: “Producing this movie is a dream actualized and we are thrilled and honored that this will be our first feature film. The Honey Wars intertwines the grandeur of The Lord of the Rings with the eccentric charm of Coraline, with a roster of vivid characters, astute humor, and unexpected plot twists – classic John Boorman.”
The kids of Sir John Boorman, including famed TV host Charley Boorman, are fully behind the project.
“I am elated that ‘The Honey Wars’ is becoming a film. The story was one of our favorite bedtime tales. There’s something enchanting about hearing a tale that only your father knows! I am deeply grateful for my dad’s gift for storytelling,” expressed Charley Boorman.
Dairy Boorman chimes in: “This delightful fairy story has beautifully detailed stories woven into it. It makes me return to our childhood when we encountered the Banshee in Ireland. Perhaps our father was enchanted by the fairy tale land and has the ability to perceive the unseen realms! This was a magical journey I treasure and look forward to seeing ‘The Honey Wars‘ for posterity.”
Katrine Boorman reminisces, “We are fortunate to have been regaled with extraordinary stories as children. Every evening, we eagerly anticipated the continuation of ‘The Honey Wars’. The memorable plot has survived in our hearts and we’re excited to see this transition into a movie.”
