Steps To Fly: A Captivating Cinematic Journey (OSA Estudio/Vivement Lundi !)

Steps to Fly beautifully weaves the emotional tale of two birds trapped in a high-windowed room. As the story unfolds, the bigger bird tutors the smaller one on how to take flight, despite having no wings. The plot thickens with the arrival of a mysterious briefcase, stirring newfound possibilities of escape for the little bird.

This entrancing film encourages its young audience to think out-of-the-box, question the obvious, and explore their individuality. Its aim is to scaffold children toward discovering their unique talents and passions.

Enjoy its journey from the Apa Lab in Córdoba in 2019 where it bagged two accolades, to securing the Ciclic award at the prestigious Annecy International Animation Festival 2021. Steps to Fly has truly flown high in various pitching venues.

In spite of Argentina’s challenging economic climate, the project came to fruition in May 2024, thanks to the relentless support of CNC, Procirep, and Angoa in France, the Polo Audiovisual, Córdoba Film Commission, and the Blas Pascal University and UNICEN where the directors are faculty members.

Get ready to see the international debut of this cinematic masterpiece in America, as it competes at the Pixelatl International Animation Festival in Mexico this September (September 3-7).

As co-director and lead producer, I am deeply honored to launch Steps to Fly at Pixelatl. The festival has been instrumental in nurturing our project, opening numerous doors for us. Premiering our work at a platform that supports and uplifts creators, while also promoting diverse narratives from the global south, is simply overwhelming.

-Rosario Carlino

The European premiere is set for the same month at the iconic Stop Trick Animation Festival in Slovenia, a podium devoted to stop-motion.

Our film screening at the Stop Trick Animation Festival gives me immense joy. With Slovenia and Eastern Europe’s rich legacy in stop-motion, we are both humbled and excited for our short film to take flight with audiences worldwide.

-Nicolás Conte

With Steps to Fly, we aspired for artistic sustainability. Our use of organic materials and recycled objects reduced the requirement for new construction. We animated 130 kilos of recycled plastic for water effect. Stop Trick’s celebration of stop-motion and innovation resonates with our production ethos.

-Rosario Carlino, lead producer

Stop-motion is our craft’s lifeblood at Vivement Lundi. The fascinating aesthetic and striking character design of Steps to Fly instantly appealed to me. By backing this production, we extend our support for compelling narratives on children’s autonomy and overcoming hindrances.

-Jean-François Le Corre, CEO, Vivement Lundi !
