Podcast Helps Spotlight and Support Independent Animation Industry
Now, for my hot take! Hold onto your (probably embarrassingly large) coffee cups animation aficionados – the tenth episode of the Independent Animation podcast has wooed us once again! This time they’re turning the spotlight on our man, Joseph Wallace, whose stop-motion game is stronger than my Wi-Fi connection (which I assure you is quite strong!). His baby, ‘Salvation Has No Name’, didn’t just run the festival circuit, it was the festival circuit’s cardio, stealing hearts and goggles along the way. He shared the nitty-gritty of his process, which is always educational, like a typically boring college lecture but somehow made cool thanks to the magic of animation! Sadly, as the curtain falls on the podcasts’ tenth episode, we bid it a teary goodbye. But wait, don’t start playing your sad cellos yet – these ten episodes will forever be the ‘Toy Story’ trilogy of the animation podcast world (yes, we’re conveniently forgetting the fourth one). So stay tuned, folks! It’s been surreal, it’s been educational, but most importantly, it’s been fun!
Welcome to the tenth chapter of Independent Animation, an exclusive podcast series that goes hand-in-hand with our Skwigly book, Independent Animation: A Comprehensive Guide to Developing, Producing, and Marketing Your Animated Films (published by Taylor & Francis/CRC Press). Today, we sit down with Joseph Wallace, the creative genius behind the acclaimed stop-motion short film, Salvation Has No Name which premiered online earlier this year, powered by a successful festival circuit.
In this episode, Wallace uncovers the unique funding journey of Salvation Has No Name, its production challenges, and his strategic steps to ensure it reached a wider audience. The film narrates a poignant, universal story that tackles important themes like xenophobia, discrimination, refugee crises, and the fear of the ‘Other’.
The film, produced by Loran Dunn for Delaval Film with the collaboration of RAPT, Animation People in the Czech Republic, and France’s Autour de Minuit, is backed by the BFI Network. Starring an all-woman cast led by Itziar Ituño from Money Heist and Yasmine Al Massri from Quantico, it features a beautiful soundtrack by Kit Wilson with sound design by David Kamp.
This episode is brought to you by Ben Mitchell, who also composed the background music.
